Casey Anthony

Today, Casey Anthony was found not guilty on all charges, found not guilty of killing her daughter. She gets to be a free woman, but it makes me sad to think that because of all the media attention, that she was assumed guilty before being proven innocent. Which is completely backwards to the saying “innocent till proven guilty”. The thing is, even though she’s been found not guilty, in many people’s eyes she will still be guilty, and she will never truly be innocent again. We can’t prove that she did kill her daughter, so let her live her life and move on. Do I wish that someone would be brought to justice for Cayliee? Yes. But I’d rather our justice system convict the right person, than convict a person that everyone just assumes is guilty, and just might not be. Really? What is this world coming to? Wasn’t it not just around 40 years ago that the supreme court judges were harassed for ending segregation? Where most thought it was the wrong decision, we look back now and look at those judges as heroes. If we had convicted Casey Anthony on the little evidence the prosecutors had, that’s when I would have lost all hope in the justice system. Maybe she did, maybe she didn’t. But she will have to live with that for the rest of her life, that is punishment enough. Honor Cayliee’s memory by finding out what actually did happen, and not letting it happen again to another child. Peace.

Death of An Innocent

I went to a party, Mom, I remembered what you said. You told me not to drink, Mom, So I drank soda instead.

I really felt proud inside, Mom, The way you said I would. I didn’t drink and drive, Mom, Even though the others said I should.

I know I did the right thing, Mom, I know you are always right. Now the party is finally ending, Mom, As everyone is driving out of sight.

As I got into my car, Mom, I knew I’d get home in one piece. Because of the way you raised me, So responsible and sweet.

I started to drive away, Mom, But as I pulled out into the road, The other car didn’t see me, Mom, And hit me like a load.

As I lay there on the pavement, Mom, I hear the policeman say, “The other guy is drunk,” Mom, And now I’m the one who will pay.

I’m lying here dying, Mom… I wish you’d get here soon. How could this happen to me, Mom? My life just burst like a balloon.

There is blood all around me, Mom, And most of it is mine. I hear the medic say, Mom, I’ll die in a short time.

I just wanted to tell you, Mom, I swear I didn’t drink. It was the others, Mom. The others didn’t think.

He was probably at the same party as I. The only difference is, he drank And I will die.

Why do people drink, Mom? It can ruin your whole life. I’m feeling sharp pains now. Pains just like a knife.

The guy who hit me is walking, Mom, And I don’t think it’s fair. I’m lying here dying And all he can do is stare.

Tell my brother not to cry, Mom. Tell Daddy to be brave. And when I go to heaven, Mom, Put “Daddy’s Girl” on my grave.

Someone should have told him, Mom, Not to drink and drive. If only they had told him, Mom, I would still be alive.

My breath is getting shorter, Mom. I’m becoming very scared. Please don’t cry for me, Mom. When I needed you, you were always there.

I have one last question, Mom. Before I say good bye. I didn’t drink and drive, So why am I the one to die?

This poem is one that I can relate to very much. My cousin, who was to graduate and go to college, was killed by a drunk driver. I wonder sometimes if this is what went through her head that night.

Austin Trip

Austin, TX, a city where the night comes alive. I went to Austin, on a random road trip designated by a best friend, and stayed with some friends. Well I was so excited for this road trip, because of course, who can forget 6th street? Well I apparently can. Not only is it 21 and over at every place besides this place called Vice, there are NO restrooms, not saying that these places don’t have them, but they just won’t let you use them. So if you are under 21, don’t go, unless you plan to pee on yourself. The parking is terrible, with most places charging 5 dollars for parking. Oh, and let’s not forget the gas station where I got to experience my first scary movie scene. There was this huge hispanic guy telling the guy over the counter that he took his wallet and blah blah blah, well here we are, me and my friend, minding our own business, when the Hispanic guy turns to us, needless to say, we ran out. He followed, like the creeper he was. We finally caught up with a crowd, where we yelled at this guy to quit following us. He stopped. He was obviously no match for Mickey power. But the most scary thing was when we left, we heard gunshots coming from the gas station, and cops hurrying towards it. It does put things in perspective, I mean, what would have happened if we hadn’t ran, would we be in a hospital? Anyway, another thing we did, was swim in this big river that was FREEZING cold. It was 3 dollars to get in, and it was worth it, even though I swear you can get frost bite. We all had good times while we were there, an I do recommend Austin as a tourist attraction or as a place to live, just to be careful of those corner gas stations, that you know you shouldn’t go into, but you do it anyway, because you really have to pee. :)
